A Commitment to Sustainability and the Environment

fresh cut

carry Overharvesting of lumber in the developing world is a major problem. Often, standing trees are simply burned to clear land for other uses. Valuable species are aggressively overcut, a process driven by government bureaucrats held responsible to meet volume quotas.

Trees from Eden takes a different approach. Our wood comes from family-owned forests in Cameroon. The forester looks on his property to find a single mature tree which is near the end of its life. This tree is felled and cut into boards on site using a chainsaw (these tree trunks are often in excess of 10 feet in diameter). These boards are then carried out of the forest by hand along a path to the nearest existing road, often a mile or more away.
select felling By only felling select mature trees with the highest yield, processing on site without heavy equipment, and then carrying the lumber out of the forest by hand, rather than cutting a road to the site, the impact on the forest is negligible and this type of harvesting is sustainable and environmentally friendly. All of our lumber meets the requirements of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES).
